My Bar Mitzvah – First Person

For those of you that do not know what a Bar Mitzvah is, it is a coming-of-age ceremony for a boy or a girl that is part of the jJewish religion.

This special event happens when a boy turns thirteen or a girl becomes twelve. In order to become a Bar or Bat mitzvah (Bar means boy and Bat means girl) you must read from the Jewish holy book called the Torah.

The Torah, like the Bible, is filled with many stories. Actually the Bible is based on the Torah. The Torah is split into five book Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. I recently had my Bar Mitzvah and I read from the book of Deuteronomy.

Another part of becoming a Bar Mitzvah is helping other people whether they live in your own community or if they live somewhere else. When I had my Bar Mitzvah I chose to fund

fund-raise money for Heifer, which is a charitable organization where you can buy animals and other necessities such as water and food for people in developing countries.

After you finish a Bar Mitzvah you have a huge party with all of your friends and family to celebrate your accomplishment.
