Sports of the Winter Olympics

Only the best athletes can make it into the Olympics. Each sport is categorized into either the summer or winter Olympics. This year, South Korea is hosting the 2018 winter Olympics. The opening ceremony was held in the Pyeongchang Olympic stadium, including the lighting of the torch.

The Olympics used to be all in one year but in 1986 the international Olympic committee decided to split the Olympics into the summer and winter games. After the combined Olympics in 1992, the net games was held in 1994 and they were the winter games.

As of this year, some favorite sports of the Olympics at Harvest Middle School include downhill skiing, halfpipe, and figure skating. So far this years Olympics has proven to be successful for some of our Olympians including snowboarder Shaun white who won his third gold medal in the halfpipe.
