AVID goes to Cal
Motivated students get to experience life at the University of California, Berkeley campus
Harvest Middle School AVID students recently visited the UC Berkeley campus during a school field trip.
The AVID students loaded the bus on October 21 and headed to UC Berkeley. While they were at the university they took a tour of the campus. They also explored the other buildings surrounding “Cal”.

During the course of the day, AVID students learned about the different clubs and organizations at the UC campus, as well as how much time the students have to get to class.
“My favorite part was when we stood on top of the bell tower. You could see everything!” said Adilene Torres.
If your wondering what AVID is, it stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. Kids can take AVID in middle school and high school.
AVID = Advancement Via Individual Determination”
AVID teachers show students how to take notes and encourage them to be the first generation in their family to go to college.
A couple of days later on October 23, there was an AVID family night potluck. All the AVID families gathered in the cafeteria to eat and talk about the field trip to Berkeley and to meet each other. What fun!
