Animal Abuse is a Serious Issue

Did you know that more than 100 million animals die from animal abuse a year?

The number has been rising in the past 30 years and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Pets are the ones getting abused usually by their owners the most common animals that are getting abused are dogs, cats, chickens, birds, and many more.

Animal abuse isn’t just physical, it can also be leaving them out in extreme weather or neglecting to nourish them. Most times owners abuse their pets because they are angry or frustrated. There is also sexual abuse, mutilation, starvation, and malnourishment.

However, one of the worst types of abuse is animal testing. This is when companies use real-life animals to test out products. They surgically remove animals’ organs or tissues to deliberately cause damage or even force animals to inhale toxic gases.

We interviewed students from Harvest to see what their opinion is about animal abuse.

7th-grade student Jocelyn Camarillo said, “Animal abuse is a horrible thing and if I saw an animal being abused I would tell my mom.”

“It’s very sad and people should go to jail for life because it is almost the same as abusing a child,” said Victoria Torres (7th).

Malachi Davis, a 7th grader, said, “People should treat all animals better if I saw it happening I would tell the person to stop.”

Clearly, animal abuse is a serious issue that many HMS students care about.
