Maureen Loomis Visits Harvest to Help Students Understand Liberia

Maureen Loomis has been a good childhood friend of our seventh grade teacher, Ms. Lewis. Loomis came to Harvest to give a keynote lecture to Ms. Lewis’ science class about world nutrition last Wednesday.

Maureen lived in Liberia for a year and taught tenth grade math to a group of 65 Liberians. She talked mainly about the main staples in Liberia.

In Liberia, if you have not eaten rice that day, you have not eaten. For example, you could have eaten a loaf of bread but you won’t say you’ve eaten until you also eat rice. Also, families eat dinner out of one big bowl.

Sadly, Maureen had to return the the USA because of the Ebola crisis.
