In a recent study of child obesity in cities, Napa came out with the fifth highest rate of child obesity. This survey was performed across all of America. Eyes of the Hawk reporters went around and asked a few Harvest teachers what they thought about this news.

Hawk: Why do you think so many kids are obese?

Mrs. Hurtado: I think it’s because there is not a lot of things for kids to do here. Napa is a tourist attraction, and the county would probably rather spend money on another winery rather than a park or playground.  It might also be because in all the schools, the cafeteria’s just re-heat processed food. All the county’s around us make their food.

Hawk: What could we do to prevent this?

Mrs. Hurtado: Maybe get kids more active. Make healthy food. Educate the kids on what’s unhealthy and what’s not. Add gym memberships to health care. Some kind of activity in class, like 15 minutes of different activities like jumping jacks, push-ups, etc. Some active apps, like trainers. Schools give students fit bits.

Hawk: Why do you think so many kids are obese?

Mr. DeMarco: I think it’s because not a lot of parents are educated on what they should be feeding they’re kids, so they don’t know what they is bad for their kids to be eating.

Hawk: What could we do to prevent this?

Mr. DeMarco: We could educate the kids or parents on what kids should be eating
